This page will give an insight to the conflicts and periods MECO can display. If there is another conflict or period needed for your event that isn't mentioned below, please contact us with any enquiries you may have.
The Great War of 1914-1918
The War to end all Wars... Every war sees a change in equipment and type of warfare but The Great War was a war that defined modern warfare. MECO can display the British Soldier of 1914 to the Conscripted man of 1917. Anti Gas displays and personal kit displays are a number of ways MECO can show what life was like for Tommy during this, the first truly technological conflict.
Using original uniforms, weapons and equipment MECO can display any of the following theatres from before the war began, right up to 1946:
Italy Burma France Germany Britain Malta Holland Norway
MECO will also display any other theatre not mentioned above. Royal Air Force and Royal Navy portrayals are also possible.
The Malayan Emergency 1948-1960
1948 - 1960 saw yet another transformation of the British Soldier or National Serviceman. Looking very much like his counterpart in 1945 when first arriving in Malaya, the soldier's equipment, uniform and weapons would develop and change beyond recognition by 1960. The MECO display can show this change at any stage of the Emergency.
MECO can also portray a soldier of any Regiment who served in Malaya.
The Korean War 1950-1953
With origins dating from the defeat of the Japanese Empire in 1945, The Korean War is a little known part of British Military History due to it being a United Nations conflict. Like the wars before, equipment and uniform had once again to be updated. Combat Dress, which was to become the basic uniform of the British Army, was introduced during this conflict. MECO can portray the British soldier of the Korean conflict before and after the harsh winter of 1950.
The British Soldier from 1946 - 1960
Battledress was still being used well into the 1960s but this period saw the introduction of Combat Dress and DPM. Weapons were also modernised which saw new Foot and Rifle Drill introduced. The British Army was based at several places during this time; namely in Trieste, Egypt, Palestine, Suez, Cyprus, Kenya, Libya, Germany, Singapore and Borneo. MECO can portray any of the aforementioned as well as the National Serviceman in Britain.
Aden 1963-1967
The era of the regular soldier, wearing the previous decade's equipment with the previous decade's ideas - This period has the feeling of being just on the edge of a new idea, but the established being not quite ready to leave! MECO can display what a soldier would carry when going out on patrol as well as display a soldier's personl items.
The British Soldier of the 1970s and 1980s
The soldiers of the 1970s compared to the soldiers of the 1920s? Big difference, which is why we cover such a large period. Yet even in 10 years the difference can be noticeable; the soldier of the 1980s is very different to that of the 1970s. MECO can display the equipment issued to a soldier in Northern Ireland right through to the food rations issued to men in the Falklands Campaign. Any infantry or corps troops that are required for a display can be arranged and researched, so you will have the most accurate and original items available for your show.
